Today marks just over 1 year in business.
Now I have run a business for the last 3 years however this was me, freelancing, finding my feet, working within business's & very much discovering the work I wanted to do. As a sole trader.
The last year I have operated as a limited company & for the last 6 months a team of very talented folk in my corner. This adventure started a couple of years ago when I met with a potential client, Andrew. I & Andrew worked on a children's book which was initially meant as a trial/tester project "before his incoming novel" however this took off & caught the imagination of TV chiefs and even warranted a trip to the big apple. - This trip was very eye-opening in more ways than one, one being we landed a 'huge' retainer which planted the seed: I might not be able to do this as a sole trader. This combination of events created the opportunity to start a company & start one with investment & mentorship behind the brand.
This starting point was the start of synergy and a strategic alliance of Andrew's business skills & decades of experience and my knowledge of the animation & illustration industry. This has now blossomed into a multi-successful film, TV & animation studio, we might be small however we are making a big splash amongst the biggest players around. Since starting we have created shorts for BBC, produced shows for Channel 4, hero art for Channel 5, E One TV, Channel 4 (for a different project), and ITV. - Since starting we have had the privilege to work on 7 TV ads, 35 illustrated campaigns & 166 projects in total. We have donated over 50 hours to people, charities, and organizations which need it most.
We are very grateful for all the clients who have made this possible & given us a platform to give a platform to other creatives. We'd like to give special thanks to all the people who have worked with us to make projects become a reality.
Biggest Learning Lessons (so far):
Trust your gut on critical decisions as it's usually right & when it's occasionally not you won't regret your choice.
Surround yourself with the people or ideas you strive to become more like & you will.
Always add a few extra days to the production diary.
It's ok to get it wrong. This is the learning process.
This has been a whirlwind of a year, it's been one hell of a learning experience & a crazy time for this 22-year-old. One thing which shines through is, we couldn't have made it as successful without the wonderful people around us.
We have some very exciting news coming in the next couple of weeks but for now, we are enjoying the calm before the storm. As we plan for 2022 we also think of ways we can give back to the community & with this, we are going to try and increase the amount of time we donate to education centers, schools, and other avenues for knowledge into this awesomely creative industry. We are going to continue building equal opportunities for all the brilliant creatives we get to commission.
If you have a creative idea you'd like transformed into an illustrated, animated, or creative piece don't hesitate to drop us a message.
Thanks for reading,
Ben
Well...............welcome to Mead and or Spokane....Don't expect that some of the adver's co's to pay what you know you are worth, at least not in this town....trust me they have gotten away with being cheap for decades........and as far as I can tell, or heard, that will not, or has not changed anytime soon.
Sorry to burst your bubble, unless I am wrong. And I could be.
Anyways, welcome to a fellow animator and I hope we can work some projects together!!!!!!!!!!
